Hollow Knight: Silksong is still progressing, says Team Cherry’s Marketing and PR Manager Matthew Griffin. Read on to find out more about the details and the speculations!
This Is Not A Joke, Silksong Is Real
Confirmed By Team Cherry’s Griffin
Following the recent wave of speculation sparked by a mysterious social media post, fans of Hollow Knight can finally breathe a sigh of relief—Silksong is real, confirmed by Team Cherry’s Marketing and Publishing Head, Matthew "Leth" Griffin.
The buzz began when co-creator William Pellen changed his X (formerly Twitter) profile picture to an image of a cake. Naturally, fans were quick to connect the dots, interpreting it as a cryptic hint toward a new update or even a potential announcement for Silksong, possibly teasing an ARG or a reveal for the Nintendo Switch 2. This prompted YouTuber fireb0rn to reach out directly to Griffin for clarity.
Unfortunately, the mystery was quickly cleared up—Pellen's cake photo was just a harmless change with no hidden meaning. As fireb0rn later tweeted, “Apologies to have misled everyone. The cake was a lie.”
But while the cake may have been a red herring, Griffin did offer some encouraging news in response: “Yes, the game is real, progressing and will release.” This marks the first official update on Silksong in over a year and a half, reigniting hope among fans who have patiently waited for years.
Silksong’s Six-Year-Long History
Originally unveiled in February 2019, Silksong was initially expected to launch in the first half of 2023. However, Team Cherry announced a delay in May 2023, citing the game's growing scope and their commitment to quality. They noted that the project had "gotten quite big," and they wanted to ensure it met their high standards.
At the time, the team shared that Silksong would transport players to a brand-new kingdom filled with nearly 150 fresh enemies, and introduce an all-new difficulty mode known as Silk Soul. Since then, updates have been sparse, leaving many fans in suspense.
Now, after nearly two years of silence, this brief but meaningful confirmation from Griffin brings renewed optimism. While it's only a small update, it's a step forward in reassuring fans that the development continues behind the scenes.
Responses from the community have varied. Some fans expressed gratitude for any form of communication, thanking Griffin and encouraging the team not to be overwhelmed by external expectations. Others, however, voiced frustration at the lack of concrete details, noting that six years is a long time to wait for what was once one of the most anticipated indie sequels.
As of now, Hollow Knight: Silksong is scheduled to launch on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. It follows Hornet, the princess-protector of Hallownest, as she embarks on a perilous journey across an unfamiliar land in pursuit of her ultimate goal.
Though no official release window has been set, fans are hopeful that more information will surface soon. For now, we wait—and keep our fingers crossed.
