On April 9, Sega took to Twitter (X) to reveal that Sonic Rumble will hit the global market on May 8, 2025. Accompanying this announcement was an exciting new trailer that offered a glimpse into the game's vibrant gameplay.Sonic Rumble marks the franchise's debut into the multiplayer party game genre, allowing up to 32 players to engage in competitive fun across various levels and gameplay modes. Sega describes the game's setting as a "toy world created by the villainous Dr. Eggman," where players control iconic Sonic characters navigating through challenging obstacle courses and arenas.
Given its free-to-play model, concerns about potential pay-to-win elements have surfaced. However, Sonic Rumble Director Makoto Tase addressed these concerns during an interview with Automaton at the Tokyo Game Show 2024. Tase reassured fans, stating, "We’re aiming for a casual system that allows you to just buy what you want quickly for a small, fixed amount, rather than a gacha system that gives you a certain probability of obtaining items."
