Sony's Hit Game Helldivers 2 Gets the Hollywood Treatment at CES 2025
Sony made a significant announcement at CES 2025: a film adaptation of its highly successful game, Helldivers 2, is officially in development. The project is a collaboration between PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures.
Asad Qizilbash, head of PlayStation Productions, revealed the exciting news, stating, "We're thrilled to announce that we've commenced development on a film based on our incredibly popular Helldivers 2." While specifics remain under wraps, fans can anticipate spectacular space battles brought to life on the silver screen.
Developed by Arrowhead Studios, Helldivers 2 is a captivating shooter drawing inspiration from the classic film, Starship Troopers. The game achieved remarkable success, becoming PlayStation Studios' fastest-selling title, boasting 12 million copies sold within its first 12 weeks. Its popularity soared even further with the Illuminate update, reintroducing a beloved enemy faction from the original Helldivers.
Adding to the excitement, a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn is also on the horizon. PlayStation Productions and Columbia Pictures (the studio behind the successful 2022 Uncharted adaptation) will spearhead this production.
Qizilbash offered a preliminary glimpse into the Horizon Zero Dawn movie, commenting, "We're in the early stages of the Horizon Zero Dawn film, but we can assure audiences: this world and its characters will receive their first-ever cinematic presentation."
