Sphere Defense, a fresh tower defense game on Android developed by Tomnoki Studio, draws inspiration from the iconic geoDefense by David Whatley, which was released over a decade ago. The developer, who grew up playing geoDefense, was captivated by its elegant simplicity combined with its challenging gameplay.
What’s the Premise?
The core concept of Sphere Defense revolves around the Earth, or 'The Sphere,' facing imminent destruction from invaders. Humanity has been forced underground, where they've been hastily developing new technology in a desperate bid to fight back. After enduring years of defeat, the underground dwellers have finally amassed enough firepower to launch a counterattack, and it's your role to lead this charge to save the planet.
In terms of gameplay, Sphere Defense embraces the classic tower defense mechanics. You strategically place units, each with unique strengths, to defend against waves of enemies. As you accumulate kills, you earn resources that allow you to expand or upgrade your arsenal. The game offers increased strategic challenges at higher difficulty levels.
You can select from three difficulty levels: easy, normal, and hard. Each difficulty level features 10 stages, with each stage lasting between 5 to 15 minutes. Here's a sneak peek of the game in action:
Set Up Turrets to Mow Your Enemies Down
Sphere Defense offers seven types of units for you to strategically mix and match in order to survive. Among the attack units, you have the Standard Attack Turret for single-target eliminations, the Area Attack Turret for annihilating clusters of enemies, and the Piercing Attack Turret, perfect for when enemies are lined up in a deadly formation.
Additionally, there are support units such as the Cooling Turret and the Incendiary Turret, which enhance the effectiveness of your attack units. There are also specialized support attack units like the Fixed-Point Attack Unit for precise missile strikes and the Linear Attack Unit that unleashes satellite laser attacks.
