Stardew Valley: How To Befriend The Dwarf

Author : Henry Update:Jan 20,2025

This guide delves into the enigmatic Dwarf of Stardew Valley, offering insights into befriending this unique character. Unlike other villagers, forging a friendship requires deciphering Dwarvish, a feat accomplished by donating all four Dwarf Scrolls to the museum.

Beyond Krobus, the Dwarf remains one of Stardew Valley's most mysterious inhabitants. Solitary in the mines, he's the sole Dwarf encountered, his existence shrouded in intrigue. While friendship with him offers different rewards than other villagers, connecting with this fantastical character adds depth to your in-game narrative.

Updated January 8, 2024: Recent Stardew Valley updates (1.5 and 1.6) have altered NPC friendship mechanics. This updated guide reflects those changes, including the Movie Theater's role in strengthening bonds and revised gift preferences.

Meeting the Dwarf

Dwarf's Boulder Located in the mines, a large boulder (right of the first floor entrance) must be removed using a copper pickaxe or bomb to reveal the Dwarf's shop.

Learning Dwarvish

Dwarf Scrolls Initial interactions are futile; the Dwarf doesn't understand common tongue. Gathering all four Dwarf Scrolls and donating them to the museum unlocks the Dwarvish Translation guide, enabling communication and access to his shop.

Gift Guide

Dwarf Gifts Gifts are crucial for building friendship. Remember, the Dwarf's birthday (Summer 22nd) multiplies friendship point gains. Two gifts are permitted weekly.

Loved Gifts (+80 friendship points):

  • Gemstones: Amethyst , Aquamarine , Jade , Ruby , Topaz , Emerald
  • Lemon Stone
  • Omni Geode
  • Lava Eel
  • All universally loved gifts

Liked Gifts (+45 friendship points):

  • All universally liked gifts
  • All Artifacts
  • Cave Carrot
  • Quartz

Disliked & Hated Gifts: Avoid mushrooms, foraged items, and universally hated gifts (except Artifacts). These negatively impact friendship.

Movie Theater Preferences:

Movie Theater The Dwarf attends movie screenings. He loves all films but has specific snack preferences: He loves Stardrop Sorbet and Rock Candy; he likes Cotton Candy, Ice Cream Sandwich, Jawbreaker, Salmon Burger, Sour Slimes, and Star Cookie. Other concessions are disliked.
