Stellar Blade Confirmed for PC Release in 2025: Potential PSN Requirement Raises Concerns
Initially a PlayStation exclusive, the action game Stellar Blade is making its way to PC in 2025! This article details the announcement and explores potential concerns surrounding the PC release.
SHIFT UP Confirms PC Port, Hints at PSN Linking
Following hints earlier this year, developer SHIFT UP has officially confirmed a 2025 PC release for Stellar Blade. The decision is driven by the rising popularity of PC gaming and the success of other PC titles. While a specific release date is still pending, SHIFT UP plans to maintain the game's momentum through marketing and upcoming content, including a NieR: Automata collaboration DLC and Photo Mode, both launching November 20th.
Potential PSN Requirement Could Limit PC Access
The PC release joins a trend of PlayStation exclusives moving to PC, but this trend brings a potential drawback. Because Stellar Blade is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and SHIFT UP is a Sony second-party developer, a PSN account link for Steam may be required. This would unfortunately exclude players in regions without PSN access. Sony's stated reason for this practice is to ensure the security of its live-service games, but the application of this to single-player titles like Stellar Blade is questionable.
Uncertainty Remains Regarding PSN Requirement
Whether or not a PSN account will be mandatory for the PC version remains unclear. While SHIFT UP retains IP ownership, the possibility of a PSN requirement exists, potentially impacting sales projections. SHIFT UP aims for PC sales to surpass console sales, but a PSN requirement could significantly hinder that goal.
