Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5), a game released over a decade ago in September 2013, continues to defy expectations. Despite its age, it sold an impressive 5 million copies in the last three months alone, solidifying its position as one of the best-selling games of all time.
Red Dead Redemption 2 (RDR2), released in October 2018, is also experiencing a surge in sales. The game added 3 million copies to its already substantial 70 million sales figure in the last quarter.
A key factor in this enduring success is GTA Online, the incredibly popular multiplayer component of GTA 5. Take-Two Interactive's commitment to ongoing updates, such as the December 2024 release of "Agents of Sabotage," keeps players engaged and returning for more.
Looking ahead, Take-Two has confirmed a fall 2025 release for the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto 6. Other notable releases on the horizon include Mafia: The Old Country, expected in summer 2025, and Borderlands 4, slated for later in the year.
While concerns about potential delays for Grand Theft Auto VI are understandable, Take-Two's recent financial presentation reaffirmed its fall 2025 release window. The company also confirmed the release of Borderlands 4 in 2025, though specific dates for both titles remain unannounced.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick acknowledged Rockstar Games' meticulous development approach, stating, "Rockstar is taking a careful approach to the development process, which may require additional time, as was the case with the company's previous projects—such as GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2." This suggests a potential for flexibility in the release schedule, while still maintaining the fall 2025 target for GTA 6.
