Warframe's TennoCon 2024: A Blast from the Past with Warframe: 1999
TennoCon 2024 delivered a powerhouse of announcements, none bigger than the upcoming Warframe: 1999 update. This massive expansion promises a nostalgic trip back to a Y2K-threatened alternate 1999, complete with a new gameplay experience and a significant fashion overhaul.
The journey begins with a prologue quest, "The Lotus Eaters," launching in August 2024. Reuniting players with a beloved character, this quest sets the stage for the main event, introducing the world of 1999 and the new Warframe, Sevatgoth Prime, and its exclusive weaponry. Completing "The Lotus Eaters" is a prerequisite for accessing Warframe: 1999, slated for release in Winter 2024.
Warframe: 1999 plunges players into the Techrot-infested city of Höllvania. Navigate this 90s-inspired urban landscape using the new Atomicyles, vehicles capable of bullet jumps, drifts, and even explosive maneuvers. Players will control the Hex, a team of six characters each sporting a Protoframe, a Warframe design showcasing the human form beneath.
The Hex boasts a star-studded voice cast, including Alpha Takahashi, Ben Starr, Melissa Medina, and Amelia Tyler. Interact with them through an in-game instant messaging system, adding a unique social element to the experience. And watch out for On-lyne, a 90s boy band turned enemy, led by the voice of Leon Kennedy himself, Nick Apostolides. Their infectious single, "Party of Your Lifetime," is available on major streaming platforms.
A major highlight is the enhanced fashion system. Players can equip two fashion frame loadouts and switch between them seamlessly. The introduction of Gemini Skins allows players to use Protoframes like Arthur and Aoi in the Origin System, complete with fully voiced lines during combat and interactions with the Operator.
Beyond Warframe: 1999, Digital Extremes is collaborating with THE LINE to produce an anime short, and new Heirloom skins are available now for Ember, with a Rhino skin coming in early 2025.
