Cancelled Transformers Game: Leaked Gameplay Footage Emerges

Recently cancelled by Splash Damage, gameplay footage of the co-op Transformers: Reactivate has re-emerged online. Announced in 2022, this Hasbro-backed title promised a multiplayer experience featuring Generation 1 Autobots and Decepticons uniting against an alien threat to Earth.

Despite the 2022 announcement at The Game Awards, little official gameplay was shown. Leaks and a few related action figures were the only glimpses fans received before the cancellation announcement. The developer cited a shift in focus to other projects, potentially resulting in layoffs.

Following the cancellation, leaked footage from a 2020 build surfaced. The video showcases Bumblebee navigating a destroyed city, seamlessly transforming between robot and vehicle modes, and utilizing various weapons. The gameplay bears resemblance to Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, but features Bumblebee battling "the Legion," the game's intended alien antagonists, instead of Decepticons.

Transformers: Reactivate Gameplay Footage Analysis

Despite some missing textures, the leaked footage presents a polished look, even incorporating environmental destruction. The clip concludes with a silent, unfinished cutscene depicting Bumblebee emerging from a portal in a ruined New York City, contacting an ally named Devin regarding the Legion's assault.

Numerous other leaks from 2020 – predating the official announcement and cancellation – also exist. While Transformers: Reactivate remains unplayable, the leaked footage offers a glimpse into the potential of this ambitious, yet ultimately unsuccessful, multiplayer project.
