Warner Bros. Games is shutting down its mobile game, Mortal Kombat: Onslaught, less than a year after its launch. The game was removed from the Google Play Store and App Store on July 22nd, 2024. Read on for details about the shutdown.
In-game purchases will be disabled starting August 23rd, 2024, but players can continue playing until October 21st, 2024, when the servers will be permanently shut down.
The exact reasons for the shutdown remain unannounced. However, NetherRealm's recent closure of its mobile games division, which also developed Mortal Kombat Mobile and Injustice, suggests a potential shift in their mobile game strategy.
Refunds for In-App Purchases:
NetherRealm Studios and Warner Bros. have not yet commented on whether refunds will be issued for in-game purchases. They promise further information soon. Follow their official X (formerly Twitter) account for updates.
Launched in October 2023 to commemorate the franchise's 30th anniversary (announced October 2022), Mortal Kombat: Onslaught offered a unique take on the Mortal Kombat series. Unlike previous installments, it blended action-adventure gameplay with a cinematic storyline, similar to free-to-play mobile MOBAs. Players teamed up with Raiden to prevent the fallen Elder God Shinnok from regaining his power.
