The Witcher's Next Animated Adventure
A Coastal Conflict on the Continent
Netflix Tudum, the official Netflix news source, announced The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep, debuting February 11, 2025. This animated film adapts Andrzej Sapkowski's short story, "A Little Sacrifice," from Sword of Destiny.
The story unfolds in a coastal village, where a centuries-long conflict between humans and merfolk compels a Continental kingdom to enlist the services of a Witcher. Instead of the usual monsters, Geralt faces a unique challenge – battling merpeople.
Returning to voice Geralt is Doug Cockle. Joey Batey and Anya Chalotra reprise their roles as Jaskier and Yennefer, respectively. Christina Wren (Will Trent) joins the cast as the new character, Essi Daven.
Sapkowski acts as a creative consultant, with the screenplay penned by Mike Ostrowski and Rae Benjamin, writers for the live-action series. Kang Hei Chul, storyboard artist for The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf, directs the film.
A Season 1 Interlude
The film's timeline fits neatly between episodes 5 and 6 of the first season of the live-action series. Following Geralt and Yennefer's reunion in Rinde after the Djinn incident in episode 5 ("Bottled Appetites"), Geralt takes on a new contract near the coast.
The coastal setting suggests a location bordering Redania and Temeria. Considering the source material, the film may take place in Bremervoord City in Temeria, ruled by Duke Agloval. However, the extent to which the film adheres to the short story remains to be seen.
