Firaxis has revealed the key features of Civilization 7's upcoming 1.1.1 update, arriving as the new strategy title struggles to match the player counts of its predecessors on Steam. Currently, Civ 7's 24-hour peak sits at 16,921 concurrent players - behind both Civilization 6 (40,676) and even the 15-year-old Civilization 5 (17,423).
Through an official Steam post, Firaxis highlighted several improvements coming in Update 1.1.1:
- Quick Move Functionality
- New Natural Wonder: Mount Everest
- UI Enhancements & Polish
- Settlement & Commander Renaming
- Additional Quality-of-Life Features
Lead designer Ed Beach detailed these changes in a developer video, with comprehensive patch notes expected soon.
Civilization 7 Update 1.1.1 Key Improvements:
The optional Quick Move feature accelerates gameplay by removing unit movement animations. Map generation receives significant changes - single-player games now default to "Standard" settings for more varied continent layouts similar to Civ 6, while multiplayer retains "Balanced" configurations for competitive fairness.
Players can now rename settlements and commanders, restart games with identical civ/leader selections on newly generated maps, and benefit from several UI upgrades:
- Persistent city/town panels during transactions
- Enhanced attack notifications
- Improved crisis indicators
- Refined resource tooltips
Today's update coincides with the Crossroads of the World Collection launch, introducing Bulgaria alongside previously announced Nepal and leader Simón Bolívar.
