Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 achieves a remarkable 2 million copies sold in just 12 days, doubling its launch sales of 1 million in three days.
Notably, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 launched as a day-one Game Pass title alongside Bethesda’s Oblivion Remastered, making this milestone even more significant for French developer Sandfall Interactive and publisher Kepler Interactive.
“We’re thrilled to see so many players embark on this journey,” stated a recent social media post. “We feel every moment, every emotion, and every discovery with you.
“To new players: welcome.
“A new day dawns.”
When Bethesda unexpectedly released The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered alongside the role-playing game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, many predicted a clear winner. Yet, both titles thrived, proving the market’s appetite for quality RPGs.
According to Kepler, Oblivion’s release did not overshadow Clair Obscur but rather amplified interest in the RPG genre, benefiting both games.
Matt Handrahan, Kepler Interactive’s senior portfolio manager, shared with The Game Business: “We always knew Expedition 33 had a unique appeal. Western and Japanese RPGs attract distinct audiences. I’ve known players who love Elder Scrolls but wouldn’t touch Final Fantasy, and vice versa.
“By launch, we had strong momentum and confidence in our game’s identity. Factors like our price point and Game Pass inclusion drove significant interest. Oblivion’s release didn’t hurt us; it spotlighted high-quality RPGs, fueling excitement for the genre that week.”
