Destiny Child is Reborn: A New Idle RPG Experience
Destiny Child, the popular mobile game initially launched in 2016, is making a triumphant return. Following its September 2023 "memorial" closure, Com2uS has partnered with ShiftUp to revitalize the franchise. This isn't a simple relaunch, however; it's a complete reimagining.
A Fresh Take on a Classic
Instead of a direct port, Com2uS is developing a brand-new Destiny Child title, this time as an idle RPG. Development is spearheaded by Com2uS's Tiki Taka Studio, known for their work on the tactical RPG, Arcana Tactics. While retaining the beloved aesthetic of the original game, including its charming 2D characters and emotional core, the new game will feature entirely new gameplay mechanics.
Revisiting the Memorial
The original Destiny Child, renowned for its captivating real-time battles and adorable characters, concluded its run after almost seven years. ShiftUp, however, thoughtfully provided a memorial version of the app, allowing players to revisit the game's rich visual assets.
This memorial app, while not fully functional, offers a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Players can admire the stunning character illustrations and reminisce about their cherished Childs. Access is restricted to those who possessed accounts before the game's shutdown, requiring verification codes linked to previous game data. It's a bittersweet experience, allowing players to appreciate the art and character designs even without active gameplay. The memorial version is available on the Google Play Store, at least until the new game's release.
The future of Destiny Child is bright, promising a fresh and exciting idle RPG experience while honoring the legacy of the original. For more gaming news, check out our article on Hearthstone's "The Great Dark Beyond" and the return of the Burning Legion.
