The story of "The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel: Northern War" begins in the autonomous province of North Ambria, located in northwestern Zemuria. It unfolds between the events of "The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel II" and "The Legend of Heroes: Trails of Cold Steel III." This "Northern War" is seen through the eyes of Lavian "Lavi" Winslet, a young Jaeger from the TV anime-based group, "Northern Jaegers."
The year is S.1205.
Lavi is a girl born and raised in the North Ambrian Autonomous Province, in northwestern Zemuria.
To protect her homeland and prove she is unlike her grandfather Vlad—a hero turned traitor—she joins the renowned mercenary group "Northern Jaegers" and carries out her duties faithfully.
One day, Lavi, who is so dedicated to her missions she often breaks protocol, is forced into a platoon with fellow Jaegers Marty, Iseria, and Talion. They are given a perilous reconnaissance mission into the Erebonian Empire.
Their objective is to gather intelligence on the "Hero of the Empire," an enigmatic figure who poses a threat to North Ambria.
