In a recent interview at Gamescom, Ed Boon, co-founder of Mortal Kombat, shed light on how the upcoming game, Mortal Kombat 1, will differentiate between the characters Omni-Man and Homelander. Boon emphasized the creative freedom the developers at NetherRealm Studios have embraced to ensure that these two powerful characters feel distinct when players take control of them.
Ed Boon Confirms Homelander and Omni-Man Will Play Differently
Addressing fan concerns during the IGN interview, Boon explained that the team is committed to avoiding any overlap in the abilities of Homelander and Omni-Man, particularly steering away from giving both characters similar Superman-like powers. "Obviously, we could do anything with the characters, but I don’t think we’re going to have both Homelander and Omni-Man have heat vision or something like that," Boon stated, highlighting their approach to character differentiation.
Boon further elaborated on how the team has drawn inspiration from the actions of these heroes in their respective shows to craft unique Fatalities for each. He assured fans that the main attacks and overall gameplay mechanics will significantly differentiate Omni-Man from Homelander, dispelling the assumption that they might end up being essentially the same character. "They’re definitely going to play differently. The main attacks are going to really differentiate them, but we’re definitely aware of the assumption that some people were making on, ‘Oh, they’re just going to be the same characters,'" Boon added.
