Acquiring upgrade materials in NieR: Automata presents varying degrees of difficulty. Many drop from defeated enemies, but some, like Filler Metal, are found randomly in the overworld. This inherent randomness necessitates a degree of luck when farming these items.
Early in the game, Filler Metal requires exploration of the Factory's depths. Later, purchasing it becomes an option, albeit at a high cost.
Locating Filler Metal in NieR: Automata
Filler Metal is a rare item found in specific spawn points within the Factory. These locations are unpredictable, and Filler Metal has the lowest spawn rate compared to other items. Accessing the Factory: Hanger fast travel point, unlocked after the main story progresses, provides an efficient starting point for your search.
Note that you may need to revisit and unlock the Factory: Hanger access point again, depending on your story progress.
While increased movement speed can slightly improve farming efficiency, reliably farming Filler Metal remains impossible. The most effective strategy is to systematically collect all naturally spawning items during your Factory runs. However, purchasing it is the most straightforward method for acquiring a significant quantity.
Purchasing Filler Metal in NieR: Automata
The only vendor selling Filler Metal is the Shopkeeper Machine in the Amusement Park. However, this option only unlocks after completing one of the game's final endings, requiring completion of all three playthroughs. Accessing this Shopkeeper via Chapter Select will reveal Filler Metal in its inventory, priced at 11,250 G per unit.
Despite the high cost, purchasing Filler Metal offers a far more reliable method than repeated Factory runs. The Pod upgrades requiring Filler Metal are crucial for game completion, as enemy levels necessitate these upgrades to avoid being significantly underpowered.
