Sony is set to enhance the PlayStation Portal experience for users engaged in its Cloud Streaming Beta with a new update rolling out later today. This update aims to refine user experience and bolster the functionality of the remote play system's cloud capabilities.
One of the standout features of this update is the ability to sort games within the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Players can now organize their games by Name, Release Date, or by which titles were most recently added to PlayStation Plus, making it easier to navigate and choose games.
Another significant enhancement is the introduction of gameplay capture during Cloud Streaming sessions. Users can now access the create menu to take screenshots or record video clips, with support for video clips up to 1920x1080 resolution and lasting up to three minutes.
Additionally, gameplay will pause under certain conditions, such as when you open the PS Portal quick menu, enter rest mode using the power button, or if a system error message appears. However, note that the rest mode pause is limited to 15 seconds, after which the cloud streaming session will disconnect if the Portal remains in rest mode. This pause feature does not apply to online multiplayer games.
Further updates include a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, notifications for inactivity, and tools for user feedback. Sony has expressed its commitment to continuously improving the service based on user input.
The Cloud Streaming Beta remains exclusive to PlayStation Plus Premium members, enabling them to stream select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog directly on the PS Portal. Last year's update transformed the Portal into more of a standalone cloud streaming device, and with these new enhancements, it's clear Sony intends to keep refining this feature.
As cloud streaming becomes increasingly integral to the gaming landscape, it will be fascinating to observe how Sony's offerings evolve in tandem with the PlayStation Portal. The ability to capture and share gameplay moments from your streaming sessions adds a delightful layer of engagement for users.
