A Nintendo Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is slated for release by late 2025, with reports also indicating a next-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S.
According to GameReactor, sources "close to Rockstar" confirm that a Switch 2 edition of Rockstar's Wild West epic is in development, alongside a "next-gen upgrade patch" to enhance the game on current-gen consoles (PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and S).
While specifics remain sparse, GameReactor's sources suggest the port and upgrade patch could launch as early as late this year.
Similar claims come from Nintenduo, which states the Switch 2 version of Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected within Take-Two's current fiscal year, ending March 31, 2026. It remains unclear whether the release will be digital-only or include a physical edition.
We hailed Red Dead Redemption 2 as a "masterpiece" upon its 2018 debut, giving it a 10/10. IGN's Red Dead Redemption 2 review described it as: "A meticulously crafted open-world tribute to the outlaw era, brimming with rare quality."
The prospect of Red Dead Redemption 2 on Switch 2 may not be shocking. In a recent Q&A with investors after Take-Two's latest financial results, CEO Strauss Zelnick expressed "strong optimism" for Nintendo's new console. He noted that Nintendo's support for third-party publishers has improved significantly compared to previous platforms.
"We’re rolling out four titles for Nintendo Switch 2, a broader lineup than we’ve ever provided for a new Nintendo platform," Zelnick said. "Historically, third-party publishing on Nintendo systems has been tough, but Nintendo has been proactive in addressing this. We’re stepping up because we’re optimistic about the platform. We evaluate each platform individually, aiming to reach consumers where they are. Not every title will come to every platform, but we also see strong potential in our catalog titles."

Take-Two is confirmed to release Civilization 7 (June 5, launch day), titles from the NBA 2K and WWE 2K series (specific games and dates TBD), and Borderlands 4 (September 12) on Switch 2. These align with Take-Two’s existing Switch franchises. Zelnick’s comments suggest potential for additional releases from Take-Two’s catalog, though GTA 6 is unlikely, while GTA V or Red Dead Redemption 2 could be possibilities.
