Square Enix has put to rest any lingering doubts about the development of Kingdom Hearts 4 with a definitive social media update, complete with a visual feast of images that leave no room for speculation. The developer took the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the project, especially following the recent announcement of the cancellation of Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, a GPS-based action-RPG designed for mobile platforms.
In a heartfelt message, Square Enix declared, "We’re currently working hard on Kingdom Hearts 4 and will continue pouring ourselves into the game’s development. We’re dedicated to making this an experience that lives up to your expectations!" Accompanying this statement was a collage of screenshots that not only showcased some of the characters fans can look forward to encountering but also offered tantalizing glimpses of cinematics, combat sequences, platforming challenges, and an imposing large enemy.

Acknowledging the excitement and support from fans, Square Enix expressed their gratitude, stating, "We’ve seen how excited you are, and we are truly grateful from the bottom of our hearts. We are equally excited and can’t wait to share more about Kingdom Hearts IV when the time is right. Until then, we appreciate your patience. Thank you for your continued support."
This update marks the first significant communication about Kingdom Hearts 4 in months, following a small, enigmatic hint back in January. Despite the initial reveal in September 2022 with a full cinematic trailer, Square Enix had maintained a low profile until this latest announcement. Series director Tetsuya Nomura has previously suggested that Kingdom Hearts 4 will bring the series' narrative, which spans 22 years and 18 games, closer to its conclusion.
Regarding the now-canceled Kingdom Hearts Missing-Link, Square Enix extended their apologies to fans who were eagerly anticipating the game. The decision to cancel was made because "it was determined that it would be difficult to offer a service that players would find satisfactory over a long period of time."
