DC Comics announces Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series debuting May 2025, penned by Marvel veteran Dan Slott. Slott, renowned for his work on titles like The Amazing Spider-Man and Fantastic Four, returns to DC after a two-decade Marvel exclusivity.
This exciting new series pairs Slott with artist Rafael Albuquerque (American Vampire) and colorist Marcelo Maiolo.
Slott expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "He's the first and greatest superhero, and I've waited my whole life to tell his stories. Rafael and I will take Superman—and you—to incredible places each month. Expect surprising stories featuring Superman, Lois, familiar villains, and brand-new adversaries. Whether you're a lifelong fan or a newcomer, Superman Unlimited #1 is the perfect entry point."
The series introduces a perilous new reality for Superman. A Kryptonite asteroid shower empowers Intergang with Kryptonite-based weaponry, forcing Superman to develop innovative technology and combat strategies. Simultaneously, Clark Kent faces a transformed Daily Planet, now a global media giant after merging with Morgan Edge's Galaxy Communications.
DC group editor Paul Kaminski compares the series' impact to Superman/Batman, stating, "Superman Unlimited will deliver the classic high-flying adventures, while introducing a massive new Kryptonite deposit. Imagine a world where every weapon is Kryptonite-enhanced—that's the unlimited danger Superman will face." He further notes the contrast with the concurrently running Justice League Unlimited, which focuses on unlimited heroes, while Superman Unlimited features unlimited, Kryptonite-powered villains.
A 10-page prelude story launches in DC All In 2025 FCBD Special Edition #1 on May 3, 2025, followed by Superman Unlimited #1 on May 21, preceding James Gunn's Superman film release on July 11.
