The Witcher 4 Won't Arrive By 2026
No Fixed Timeline Yet
CD Projekt Red has dashed hopes for a 2026 launch of The Witcher 4, confirming the next installment won't see daylight within the next two years. Fans eager to return to the Continent will need to sharpen their patience.
During their FY2024 earnings call, developers revealed financial targets tied to incentive programs stretching into 2027, dropping the telling remark: "While we're not planning to launch The Witcher 4 by 2026's close, we remain committed to these financial objectives."
When pressed for clarity during Q&A, CFO Piotr Nielubowicz maintained their position: "We're not ready to announce specific dates yet. For investor transparency, we can confirm the game won't release during our initial incentive program's timeframe ending December 31, 2026."
Development Kicks Into High Gear
Despite this timeline adjustment, development is ramping up significantly. Last year's Q3 financial report marked Project Polaris (now officially The Witcher 4) entering "full production" phase. "This is currently our most advanced project, entering its most intensive development stage," Nielubowicz noted, praising the team's progress.
Originally unveiled in 2022 under its codename, the game's full title emerged during The Game Awards 2024 with a dramatic cinematic reveal. The next chapter bids farewell to Geralt of Rivia, passing the torch to his adopted daughter Ciri - now grown and following in her mentor's footsteps as the new protagonist.
According to CD Projekt's 2022 announcements, this installment launches a brand new trilogy. Two additional titles - currently known as Project Canis Majoris and Project Orion - are slated to follow within six years after The Witcher 4's eventual release.
