Unveiling "The Invincible Iron Man"
Edwards revealed never-before-seen assets from the canceled project, tentatively titled "The Invincible Iron Man," a nod to the character's original comic book name. Development followed closely after the release of Genepool Software's X-Men 2: Wolverine’s Revenge. His Twitter posts included the game's title card, the Genepool Software logo, gameplay screenshots, and original Xbox gameplay footage showcasing the startup screen and a desert-based tutorial segment.
Activision's Decision to Cancel
Despite fan enthusiasm, Activision canceled "The Invincible Iron Man" shortly after development began. Genepool Software subsequently closed, leaving the team unemployed. While Activision never publicly explained the cancellation, Edwards offered several potential reasons in response to online comments: delays in the related film, dissatisfaction with the game's progress, or perhaps another developer securing the rights.
A Unique Iron Man Design
Commenters noted the game's Iron Man design differed significantly from Robert Downey Jr.'s MCU portrayal, more closely resembling the "Ultimate Marvel" comic book version of the early 2000s. Edwards stated the design was the sole decision of the game's designer. He promised to release more gameplay footage, though this has yet to materialize.
