M3GAN 2.0 Dies Fast as Digital Release Hits

Author : Ava Update:Dec 31,2025

The box office disappointment M3GAN 2.0 hits digital platforms today, July 15, following just three underwhelming weekends in theaters. Concurrently, reports confirm production company Blumhouse has undergone staff reductions across multiple departments.

Underperforming Release

During its opening weekend, M3GAN 2.0 grossed a modest $10.2 million domestically and a mere $6.958 million internationally - a stark contrast to the 2022 original's $180 million global success.

IGN's M3GAN 2.0 review awarded 6/10, noting: "While shifting from horror to sci-fi/action delivers uneven results, M3GAN's razor-sharp wit and lethal dance moves remain the film's undeniable highlights."

Digital Rollout

The film's official Twitter account announced its early digital transition with characteristic sass: "They said this version of me was 2 much 4 theaters. do with that what u will." The digital release arrives today, with physical copies scheduled for September 23.

Current theatrical earnings total just $36,496,600 worldwide ($22.4M domestic/$14M international) according to Box Office Mojo.

Blumhouse Restructuring

Deadline reports Blumhouse has eliminated six junior-level positions across film, television, and casting divisions. The cuts represent approximately 6% of their 100-person workforce, though none affected M3GAN 2.0's production team.

Executive Reflections

Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum recently addressed the film's disappointing performance on The Town podcast, acknowledging strategic miscalculations:

"We fundamentally misjudged audience expectations," Blum admitted. "We treated M3GAN like a flexible superhero property when viewers simply wanted more of what originally captivated them."

The executive specifically referenced the sequel's tonal shift from psychological horror to action-comedy as a primary factor in its underperformance. Blumhouse now turns its attention to December's Five Nights at Freddy's 2 release.
