The DOOM community's passion for pushing the boundaries of where the iconic shooter can be played has led to yet another intriguing experiment. NyanSatan, a tech enthusiast, successfully managed to run DOOM on an Apple Lightning/HDMI adapter. The adapter, equipped with its own iOS-based firmware and a processor capable of reaching up to 168 MHz, provided the perfect unconventional platform for this feat. NyanSatan accessed the adapter's firmware using a MacBook to compensate for the device's lack of memory, enabling the classic game to run smoothly on this unexpected hardware.
In other DOOM news, the upcoming title, DOOM: The Dark Ages, is set to introduce a new level of customization and accessibility. The developers at id Software are focusing on making the game as inclusive as possible, with features allowing players to adjust the aggression levels of demons. This adjustment, found within the game's settings, aims to cater to a wide range of player preferences and skill levels. Executive producer Marty Stratton emphasized the studio's commitment to accessibility, detailing options for modifying enemy damage, difficulty, projectile speed, damage received, game tempo, aggression levels, and parry timing.
Stratton also clarified that DOOM: The Dark Ages is designed to be standalone, ensuring that new players do not need prior knowledge of the series' lore to enjoy the game. This approach will make both DOOM: The Dark Ages and DOOM: Eternal accessible to newcomers, further broadening the appeal of the franchise.
