Fans of the Monster Hunter series have expressed mixed feelings about the weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World, prompting curiosity about whether Monster Hunter Wilds will offer a fresh approach. While glimpses of Wilds' weapons have been revealed, they haven't been enough to form a comprehensive view of the design philosophy—until now. Director Yuya Tokuda has shed light on this topic, offering reassurance to fans.
Discussing the Hope series armor and weapons, Tokuda stated, "Incidentally, weapon designs in Monster Hunter: World generally retained a certain form, but they featured a customized appearance based on which monster materials were used. However, in Wilds, each weapon has its own unique design." This statement directly addresses the concerns about weapon design similarities that were prevalent in Monster Hunter: World, where even the most upgraded versions of weapons, such as the final aqua line Sword and Shield and the final Pukei-Pukei Sword and Shield, often looked strikingly similar.
The comparison to Monster Hunter: World makes it clear that in Monster Hunter Wilds, weapon designs will stand out individually. The images below showcase how the final versions of weapons in Monster Hunter: World looked, highlighting the similarities between the aqua line and Pukei-Pukei Sword and Shield, as well as the bone line and Jyuratodus Long Sword.
