Supermassive Games, renowned for horror titles like Until Dawn, The Quarry, and The Dark Pictures anthology, has reportedly shelved development of an unannounced Blade Runner project.
According to Insider Gaming, the studio was crafting Blade Runner: Time To Live—a cinematic action-adventure centered on 2065's last Blade Runner. The narrative reportedly followed Nexus-6 replicant So-Lange, tasked with eliminating an underground replicant leader before being betrayed and stranded in hostile territory. Gameplay would have blended stealth, combat, exploration, detective work, and intense character-driven moments.
Insider Gaming revealed the project's $45 million budget included $9 million allocated for performance capture and acting talent. Planned as a 10-12 hour single-player experience, pre-production reportedly began in September 2024 targeting a September 2027 launch across PC and current/next-gen consoles.
The report cites licensing disputes with rights holder Alcon Entertainment as the cancellation catalyst, with development halting in late 2023.
Separately, Annapurna Interactive announced Blade Runner 2033: Labyrinth in summer 2023—their first internal development project and the franchise's first game in 25 years. No updates have surfaced since the initial announcement.
Supermassive currently balances multiple projects including Dark Pictures' Directive 8020 and Little Nightmares 3. The studio underwent layoffs affecting roughly 90 staff last year during what it termed a "consultation period."
The Until Dawn film adaptation hits theaters this weekend, with our review of David F. Sandberg's cinematic interpretation available now.
