The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered made a strong debut on Steam, reaching a peak concurrent player count of over 180,000 on its launch day.
Following Bethesda's surprise release of Oblivion Remastered on April 22, the game quickly rose to the top of Steam’s global best-sellers list by revenue. It surpassed popular titles such as Valve's Counter-Strike 2, the viral sensation Schedule I, and Blizzard's Overwatch 2, which had also received a major new update.
Oblivion Remastered was also the fourth most-played game on Steam that day, trailing only Counter-Strike 2, PUBG, and Dota 2. Currently, it is the most-played single-player RPG on Steam, ahead of the resurgent Baldur’s Gate 3, and has earned a 'Very Positive' user review rating.
Of course, Steam stats alone don’t capture the full picture of Oblivion Remastered’s success. As a Microsoft-owned title (Microsoft owns Bethesda's parent company, ZeniMax Media), the game launched directly into Xbox Game Pass for Ultimate subscribers. This subscription service is likely to have brought in a significant number of additional players.
Additionally, the game launched on PlayStation 5 and standard Xbox Series X and S consoles. Since neither Microsoft nor Sony publicly share player numbers, the actual peak concurrent player count for Oblivion Remastered on launch day is likely much higher than 180,000.
Although Bethesda has not yet released official sales or total player figures, the remaster appears to be off to a successful start. Player numbers are expected to grow further as the game enters its first weekend after release.

Developed by remake specialist Virtuos using Unreal Engine 5, Oblivion Remastered includes a wide range of visual and gameplay enhancements. It runs at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second, as expected, but many other upgrades are more impactful. Improvements span leveling systems, character creation, combat animations, and in-game menus. The remaster also introduces more dialogue, a fully realized third-person view, and improved lip-sync technology. These changes have been well received by fans, with many considering the release closer to a full remake than a remaster. Bethesda, however, has clarified its decision to label it a remaster.
