Get ready for Phantom Blade Zero, boasting four difficulty settings and exciting gameplay features! This 2025 release promises a thrilling experience. Read on for the latest development updates.
Phantom Blade Zero: A Combo-Driven Action Game, Not a Soulslike
Contrary to initial Soulslike comparisons due to its dark aesthetic and challenging combat, Phantom Blade Zero offers four difficulty levels: Easy, Ordinary, Difficult, and Extremely Difficult. Game Director Soulframe clarified on Twitter that the game is not a Soulslike, aiming instead for "combo-driven, heart-pumping combat that is hectic, rewarding, and exhilarating." While inspired by Soulslike games in its level design (multi-layered maps, multiple paths, hidden areas), the core gameplay is distinct. Soulframe described it as "Ninja Gaiden Combat on a Souls Game Map," blending hack-and-slash action with expansive exploration.
Extensive Gameplay: Weapons, Playtime, and More
Players can choose from over 30 primary and 20 secondary weapons, each with unique combat properties. Expect a substantial 20-30 hours for the main story, with an additional 20-30 hours of side content. Boss fights feature at least two phases, allowing players to restart from the second phase upon death. A new "Li Wulin" mode lets players rematch defeated bosses, potentially unlocking hidden challenges. A game mechanic influencing the ending is also confirmed, though details remain scarce.
Year of the Snake Gameplay Trailer and Future Announcements

A 2025 release is hinted at, and Soulframe promises further exciting announcements and previously unseen reveals.
