Sega's Risk-Taking Approach Fuels RGG Studio's Ambitious Projects
Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio (RGG Studio) is tackling multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, a feat attributed to Sega's willingness to embrace risk and innovation. This bold strategy has resulted in two exciting new projects joining the studio's already impressive lineup.
Sega Embraces Risk and New IPs
RGG Studio, renowned for the Like a Dragon series, is developing a brand-new IP alongside a Virtua Fighter project. These additions, alongside the upcoming Like a Dragon title and Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. remaster, demonstrate the studio's ambitious scope. RGG Studio head and director, Masayoshi Yokoyama, credits Sega's open approach to risk-taking for this opportunity.
In December, RGG unveiled trailers for both Project Century (a new IP set in 1915 Japan) and a new Virtua Fighter project (distinct from the remaster). The scale of these projects highlights the studio's ambition, and Sega's confidence in RGG's ability to deliver. This reflects a strong partnership built on trust and a shared desire for creative exploration.
Yokoyama emphasizes Sega's acceptance of potential failure as a key factor. He notes that Sega's DNA includes a willingness to move beyond safe bets, citing the creation of Shenmue as an example of this innovative spirit – born from the question, "What if we made 'VF' into an RPG?"
RGG Studio assures fans that the simultaneous development of these projects won't compromise quality. With the support of Virtua Fighter creator Yu Suzuki, and a commitment to excellence, Yokoyama and Virtua Fighter Project producer Riichiro Yamada promise a high-quality product for the Virtua Fighter franchise.
Yamada promises an innovative and engaging Virtua Fighter experience for both fans and newcomers, while Yokoyama expresses his excitement for both upcoming titles. The future looks bright for RGG Studio, fueled by Sega's commitment to pushing boundaries.
