Dynasty Warriors Origins: Choosing the Right Difficulty Setting

Author : Jonathan Update:Apr 27,2025

The Dynasty Warriors series is known for its hack-and-slash combat, but it also demands a certain level of skill from its players. Recognizing this, Dynasty Warriors: Origins introduces four difficulty settings, allowing players to customize their gaming experience to match their skill level and desired challenge. As this game serves as a reboot, it's essential for both new and returning players to understand which difficulty setting will best enhance their enjoyment of the game.

All Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Settings

Dynasty Warriors: Origins features four distinct difficulty settings, though initially, only three are accessible. Upon starting the game, players can choose between Historian (easy), Wayfarer (normal), and Hero (hard). The Ultimate Warrior (very hard) setting unlocks after completing one of the main scenarios of the three factions. While there's a Trophy/Achievement for completing a single battle on Ultimate Warrior, there are no such rewards tied to completing the main campaign on any specific difficulty.

Which Dynasty Warriors: Origins Difficulty Setting is Best?

Historian is tailored for newcomers to the action-adventure genre or those primarily interested in the story, making it the easiest setting. Wayfarer strikes a balance that suits most players, including those with limited experience in Musou/Warriors games. Dedicated fans of the series might opt for Hero, while seasoned Musou masters could consider stepping up to Ultimate Warrior once unlocked, to maintain a challenging gameplay experience as they tackle remaining missions, requests, and scenarios. Players can adjust the difficulty between battles through the config menu without affecting the story, allowing for a flexible gaming experience.

Difficulty Mode Differences in Dynasty Warriors: Origins

On Historian difficulty, all enemy attacks are blockable, and players can more easily stagger foes, gain bravery, and fill the Musou Gauge. In contrast, Hero increases enemy strength and aggression, shortens parry and perfect evade windows, and removes Meat Buns from enemy drops. Blocking depletes bravery, players have less influence over battles between allied and enemy forces, and there's a slight decrease in Skill Points and gold earned. Ultimate Warrior amplifies these challenges, offering even tighter parry and evade windows and significantly reduced battle earnings.
