Will Wright, creator of The Sims, recently offered a deeper look into his new AI-powered life simulation game, Proxi, during a Twitch livestream with BreakthroughT1D. This follows the release of a "not-a-trailer-trailer" last month from Gallium Studio, the game's developer. The livestream provided substantial new details about Proxi's unique gameplay.
A Personalized AI Life Sim
BreakthroughT1D, a leading organization dedicated to Type 1 diabetes research, partnered with Wright for the livestream as part of their Dev Diaries series. The series features game developers discussing their work and personal experiences.
Wright explained that Proxi is an "AI life sim built from your memories." Players input personal memories as text, which the game then transforms into animated scenes. These scenes are customizable using in-game assets for greater accuracy. Each added memory, termed a "mem," trains the game's AI and populates the player's "mind world," a 3D environment of hexagons.
This mind world expands as more mems are added, and it becomes populated with Proxies representing friends and family. Memories can be arranged chronologically and linked to specific Proxies, reflecting the context of each memory. Remarkably, Proxies can even be exported to other game worlds like Minecraft and Roblox.
The core goal of Proxi is to create "magical connections with memories, bringing them to life." Wright emphasized his desire for a deeply personal player experience, leading to the memory-centric design. He humorously noted, "No game designer ever went wrong by overestimating the narcissism of their players," suggesting that a game deeply focused on the player's own experiences will resonate strongly.
Proxi is now featured on Gallium Studio's website, with platform announcements forthcoming.
