Activision has revealed that the Directed mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has nearly doubled the number of players engaging with the main quest. While many players of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Zombies are primarily focused on survival, the introduction of Directed mode has shifted some attention towards the story.
Since its inception in Call of Duty: World at War, the Zombies mode has always included a narrative. This storyline has grown significantly over time with each new Zombies experience, including in Black Ops 6. Despite a decline in the overall player base since its launch, the Zombies mode retains a dedicated community. The mode features a wave-based system where players, up to four at a time, face increasingly challenging enemies, often prioritizing weapon and defense upgrades over the storyline. The introduction of Zombies Directed mode in the Season 1 update has been well-received by the community.
A recent blog post from Call of Duty confirmed that Directed mode has boosted the main quest completion rate in Black Ops 6 Zombies from 4% to 8.23%. This statistic is derived from 480 million hours of gameplay, with a minor portion logged since the November 14 release of Directed mode. Treyarch's goal with Directed mode was to increase engagement with the main quest, and the doubling of completion rates is seen as a success. However, Treyarch notes that over 90% of players still do not complete the main quest, and they are actively seeking ways to further boost this figure.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6's Directed Mode Made Major Improvements in One Key Area
Zombies' Directed mode, introduced in the Season 1 update of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, came with three new maps, two game modes, and more. Although Directed mode provides structured pathways for players to follow the storyline, it has significantly aided the community in experiencing the latest chapter of the Zombies saga. The Zombies storyline, which has evolved to include complex elements like interdimensional portals, zero-point energy, time travel, and teleportation, can be daunting for newcomers. While earlier iterations largely left players to navigate the story independently, Directed mode offers guidance that helps Black Ops 6 players engage with the narrative more effectively.
With Directed mode in place, more Zombies enthusiasts than ever before are completing the main quest. As Treyarch continues to refine Black Ops 6, future updates to Zombies and Directed mode may further enhance the main quest completion statistics.
