Final Fantasy VII Rebirth PC Version: Modding, DLC, and Enhancements
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth director Naoki Hamaguchi recently discussed the PC version of the game, addressing player interest in mods and potential DLC. Read on for details.
No Immediate DLC Plans, but Player Demand Could Change That
While the development team initially considered adding episodic DLC to the PC release, resource constraints led them to prioritize completing the final game in the trilogy. However, Hamaguchi stated that significant player demand for additional content could lead to future DLC development. "If we receive strong requests from players after the release regarding certain matters, we would like to consider them," he explained.
A Plea to the Modding Community
Although the game lacks official mod support, Hamaguchi acknowledged the inevitable interest from the modding community. He issued a request for responsible modding, urging creators to refrain from developing or distributing offensive or inappropriate content.
The potential for creative and enriching mods was also highlighted, referencing the impact of modding on the gaming landscape. However, the director's request for responsible content creation underscores the need for a balance between player creativity and maintaining the game's intended experience.
PC Version Improvements and Challenges
The PC version boasts enhanced graphics, including improved lighting and higher-resolution textures, addressing previous concerns about the “uncanny valley” effect in character faces. The team also addressed the challenges of adapting the game's mini-games for PC controls.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches on PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on January 23, 2025. The game originally released on PS5 on February 9, 2024, to widespread critical acclaim.
