Monster Hunter Wilds: Lowering the Bar for PC Entry
Console Performance Goals Unveiled
Monster Hunter Wilds will launch with a PS5 Pro patch. A recent community update stream (December 19th) featured director Yuya Tokuda and other developers, outlining changes based on the Open Beta Test (OBT) feedback. The stream revealed console performance targets: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will offer "Prioritize Graphics" (4K/30fps) and "Prioritize Framerate" (1080p/60fps) modes. Xbox Series S will run natively at 1080p/30fps. A rendering bug affecting the framerate mode has been resolved, resulting in noticeable performance improvements.
While enhanced visuals are promised for PS5 Pro at launch, specific performance details remain undisclosed.
PC players can expect performance to vary widely based on individual hardware and settings. While initial PC specs were previously announced, Capcom confirmed efforts to lower minimum requirements for broader accessibility. These revised minimum specs will be revealed closer to launch. The possibility of a PC benchmark tool is also under consideration.
A Second Open Beta Test?
Capcom is exploring a second open beta testing phase, primarily to give players who missed the first opportunity a chance to experience the game. However, this potential second beta will not include the improvements discussed in the recent stream; those will be exclusive to the full release.
The livestream also highlighted adjustments to hitstop and sound effects for a more impactful feel, friendly fire mitigation, and weapon tweaks, with particular focus on the Insect Glaive, Switch Axe, and Lance.
Monster Hunter Wilds is set to launch on February 28th, 2025, for PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
