Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 Hotfix 4.1 Addresses Player Concerns After Patch 4.0 Backlash
Following significant player backlash against last week's Patch 4.0, Saber Interactive is releasing hotfix 4.1 on October 24th. This patch directly addresses the controversial nerfs introduced in Patch 4.0.
The Developer Response and Public Test Servers
In a community update, game director Dmitriy Grigorenko acknowledged the negative player feedback and announced the reversal of the "most pressing" balance changes from Patch 4.0. The decision to revert these changes follows negative reviews and criticism on Steam. Grigorenko also announced plans for public test servers, aiming for a launch around early 2025, to better incorporate player feedback in future updates.
Patch 4.0's Rationale and Unintended Consequences
Saber Interactive explained that Patch 4.0 aimed to increase enemy spawns rather than boosting enemy health, in response to feedback suggesting the game was too easy, even on the highest difficulty setting. However, this change negatively impacted lower difficulty levels.
Hotfix 4.1 Changes: Nerf Reversals and Buffs
Hotfix 4.1 will revert the enemy spawn rate adjustments from Patch 4.0 to pre-Patch 4.0 levels across Minimal, Average, and Substantial difficulties. On Ruthless difficulty, spawn rates will be significantly reduced. Additionally:
- Player armor on Ruthless difficulty is increased by 10%.
- Bot damage against bosses is increased by 30%.
- Bolt weapons receive a comprehensive buff.
Specific Bolt Weapon Damage Increases in Hotfix 4.1:
- Auto Bolt Rifle: +20%
- Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Heavy Bolt Rifle: +15%
- Stalker Bolt Rifle: +10%
- Marksman Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Instigator Bolt Carbine: +10%
- Bolt Sniper Rifle: +12.5%
- Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Occulus Bolt Carbine: +15%
- Heavy Bolter: +5% (x2)
Moving Forward
Saber Interactive will continue monitoring player feedback following the release of Patch 4.1 to ensure the Lethal difficulty remains appropriately challenging and rewarding. The introduction of public test servers in 2025 signals a commitment to more collaborative development going forward.
