Deadlock Update Schedule Shifting in 2025
Valve has announced a change of pace for Deadlock updates in 2025, prioritizing fewer, larger patches over the frequent updates of 2024. This decision, communicated via the official Deadlock Discord, stems from challenges in maintaining the previous two-week update cycle. While this may disappoint some players accustomed to constant content additions, it promises more substantial updates with a greater impact.
Deadlock, Valve's free-to-play MOBA, launched on Steam earlier in 2024 after initial gameplay leaks. The unique steampunk-inspired third-person shooter has quickly established itself in the competitive hero-shooter market, even amidst competition from titles like Marvel Rivals. Its polished gameplay and diverse roster have contributed to its success.
According to PCGamesN, Valve developer Yoshi explained the shift in strategy: the consistent two-week update cycle hindered internal iteration and prevented sufficient time for external feedback before the next update. The new approach will feature larger, event-style patches released less frequently, supplemented by hotfixes as needed.
The recent winter update, a departure from the year's balance-focused patches, offered a glimpse into this new direction, hinting at future limited-time events and modes. This suggests Deadlock will continue to evolve with engaging seasonal content. The game currently boasts 22 playable characters, expandable to 30 in Hero Labs mode. Its innovative anti-cheat measures and creative character designs further enhance its appeal.
While an official release date remains unannounced, Valve promises more Deadlock news in 2025. The shift to a less frequent, more impactful update schedule signals a focus on quality and significant content additions moving forward.
