Counter-Strike Creator Praises Valve's Stewardship
Le Commends Valve for Preserving Counter-Strike's Legacy

Marking Counter-Strike's 25th anniversary, co-creator Minh "Gooseman" Le shared insights during an interview with Spillhistorie.no. Alongside Jess Cliffe, Le developed what would become one of gaming's most enduring FPS titles.
Reflecting on Valve's impact, Le emphasized their crucial role in shaping Counter-Strike's success. "I'm pleased with Valve's handling of the IP," Le remarked. "They've done exceptional work maintaining CS's core identity while evolving the franchise."
The Steam transition proved challenging technically. "Early Steam faced significant stability issues, sometimes leaving players unable to access the game," Le recalled. Community support proved invaluable during this period, with player-created guides smoothing the migration process.

Le began developing Counter-Strike as a Half-Life mod while still a university student in 1998.
"My inspiration came from arcade classics like Virtua Cop and Time Crisis, combined with cinematic influences from Hong Kong action films and 90s thriller movies," Le explained. Jess Cliffe joined the project in 1999, contributing to map development.
Celebrating its 25th anniversary on June 19, Counter-Strike maintains remarkable popularity, with Counter-Strike 2 attracting approximately 25 million monthly players. Valve's dedicated support has sustained the series' relevance amidst fierce FPS competition.
"Working with Valve's talented developers proved invaluable," Le noted. "The experience surpassed anything I could have gained elsewhere, reinforcing Valve's reputation as an industry leader."
