Five Nights at Freddy's is making its highly anticipated debut in Dead by Daylight, but developer Behaviour Interactive still has an ambitious roster of horror legends it hopes to incorporate.
The creative team behind the acclaimed asymmetrical horror game shared their aspirational character wishlist during an exclusive interview with IGN. While constantly evaluating potential new Killers and Survivors, the developers revealed some specific horror icons they're particularly passionate about adding.
The Shapeshifting Horror That Haunts One Developer's Dreams
"I've been on a two-and-a-half-year crusade to bring The Thing into Dead by Daylight," confessed Killer Designer and horror enthusiast Jason Guzzo. Having previously introduced infamous villains like Chucky, Dracula, and Springtrap into the Entity's realm, Guzzo revealed John Carpenter's 1982 sci-fi horror masterpiece holds special significance for him.
"It's my absolute favorite horror movie," Guzzo emphasized. "While there are no current discussions about it happening, The Thing remains my personal holy grail addition. I brainstorm solutions constantly - how to translate that perfect paranoia of not knowing who's human into our game mechanics."

Guzzo clarified these aren't teases for future content, acknowledging the complex design challenges a shapeshifting alien parasite would present. "The mimic mechanics would require entirely new systems," he admitted, "but that innovation potential makes it my passion project."
A Director's Ambitious Horror Collection
Creative Director Dave Richard sees endless possibilities beyond the obvious candidates. "Pennywise would be incredible, naturally," Richard noted, "but why stop there? There's a whole pantheon of horror royalty we'd love to honor."
His aspirations extend to unconventional choices that initially seem impossible. "Some ideas sound ridiculous until you solve the design puzzle," Richard explained. "Take Cujo - how would a rabid dog work as a Killer? Or Christine - could a murderous car actually function in our game systems? These are the fascinating challenges that get our team excited."
With Dead by Daylight approaching its ninth anniversary, the horizon continues expanding. The Five Nights at Freddy's Chapter arrives June 17, introducing Springtrap and a chilling pizzeria map.
