Elden Ring: Nightreign will omit the in-game messaging feature previously seen in FromSoftware titles. Project director Junya Ishizaki explained this decision, stating that the approximately forty-minute gameplay sessions are too short to allow players sufficient time for message writing and reading. The statement reads: "With sessions lasting roughly forty minutes, there isn't enough time to send your own messages or read other people's messages, therefore we disabled the messaging feature."
This change is notable given the significant role messaging has played in fostering player interaction and enjoyment within FromSoftware's game history. However, the development team deemed the feature unsuitable for Nightreign's design.
To maintain the integrity of the original Elden Ring, Nightreign features a separate narrative. It promises a fresh adventure with unique challenges and encounters while retaining the distinctive atmosphere and complexity of the Elden Ring world.
