Sony has unveiled a new PlayStation studio named teamLFG, sparking excitement with a tease of their debut game. In a recent PlayStation Blog post, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, revealed that teamLFG originated at Bungie, the renowned developer behind Destiny and Marathon. The studio is currently working on an "ambitious" incubation project that has Hulst "very excited."
The name teamLFG stands for 'Looking For Group,' reflecting the studio's focus on social gaming. Their first game is described as a team-based action title that draws inspiration from a diverse array of genres including fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and "frog-type games." Set in a lighthearted, comedic world within a new mythic, science-fantasy universe, the game aims to foster friendship, community, and belonging among players.
"We are driven by a mission to create games where players can find friendship, community, and belonging," teamLFG stated. They aim to create an environment where players log in to find their teammates already online, fostering a sense of familiarity and camaraderie. The studio emphasizes the joy of memorable in-game moments that players can share and cherish, encapsulated in their phrase – "dat’s da good stuff."
The studio plans to develop immersive multiplayer worlds that players can engage with for countless hours, focusing on games that can be learned, played, and mastered. They also intend to involve the community in the development process through early access playtests, ensuring they can adapt to player feedback not only before launch but throughout the game's live service phase.

teamLFG's project emerged from Bungie during a period marked by significant layoffs. Following Sony's acquisition, Bungie struggled to meet financial targets with Destiny 2, leading to layoffs affecting approximately 100 employees in November 2023 and another 220 in 2024, which was 17% of the studio's workforce. Some 155 employees were reassigned within Sony Interactive Entertainment during this time, and it was then that the incubation project was spun off.
Last year, a former Bungie lawyer praised Sony's role in pushing through improvements to Destiny 2. Since then, Bungie has fully unveiled the extraction shooter Marathon and outlined the future roadmap for Destiny 2. However, there are no plans for Destiny 3, and a spinoff project called Payback has been canceled.
