Digital Foundry's Thomas Morgan conducted a thorough review of Bloodborne's performance on the ShadPS4 emulator, specifically using the 0.5.1 build by diegolix29, which is based on a custom branch developed by raphaelthegreat. Morgan tested this build on a PC equipped with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700X processor and a GeForce RTX 4080 GPU, finding it to be the most stable among the various builds he tried.
To enhance the gaming experience and resolve visual issues, Morgan recommended using the Vertex Explosion Fix mod. This mod, while disabling character face customization at the start of the game, effectively eliminates visual artifacts such as stretched or mispositioned polygons. Fortunately, no other mods are necessary as the emulator itself comes with a built-in menu that allows users to tweak settings such as enabling 60 fps, boosting resolution to 4K, and turning off chromatic aberration.
In his tests, Morgan observed that Bloodborne mostly maintained a smooth 60 fps, though it experienced occasional stuttering. He also experimented with higher resolutions, including 1440p and 1800p, which enhanced image quality but led to performance dips and frequent crashes. Therefore, Morgan suggests that for the best balance of performance and stability, players should opt for 1080p or 1152p resolutions when running Bloodborne on the ShadPS4 emulator.
Morgan praised the ShadPS4 team's efforts in making PS4 emulation a reality, highlighting it as a remarkable achievement. He concluded that while Bloodborne runs well on the emulator, there are still some technical challenges to be addressed.
