Concord: A Hero Shooter Launching August 23rd with a Robust Post-Launch Roadmap
Sony and Firewalk Studios have unveiled details regarding the post-launch content plan for their upcoming hero shooter, Concord, launching August 23rd on PS5 and PC. Following a successful open beta, players can anticipate a continuous stream of updates starting on day one.
No Battle Pass Required
Unlike many competitors, Concord eschews the traditional battle pass system. Firewalk Studios prioritizes a rewarding base experience, where gameplay, character progression, and objective completion provide meaningful rewards. This design choice focuses on making the core game engaging without relying on a monetized progression system.
Season 1: The Tempest – Arriving October 2024
Concord's first major post-launch update, Season 1: The Tempest, is scheduled for October. This update will introduce:
- A new playable Freegunner character.
- A brand-new map.
- Additional Freegunner Variants.
- New cosmetic items and rewards.
- Weekly Cinematic Vignettes expanding the Northstar crew storyline.
An in-game store will also debut in Season 1, offering purely cosmetic items that do not affect gameplay balance.
Season 2 and Beyond
Season 2 is already in development, targeting a January 2025 release. Firewalk Studios is committed to delivering regular seasonal updates throughout Concord's first year, ensuring a consistent flow of fresh content.
Optimal Gameplay Strategies
Game director Ryan Ellis offered insights into effective gameplay, emphasizing the "Crew Builder" system. Players assemble teams of five unique Freegunners, with the option to include up to three copies of any Variant. This allows for strategic team composition based on player preference and match dynamics.
Unlike traditional "Tank" or "Support" roles, Concord's Freegunners are designed for high damage output. Six distinct roles—Anchor, Breacher, Haunt, Ranger, Tactician, and Warden—influence gameplay through area control, strategic positioning, and flanking maneuvers. Combining Freegunners from diverse roles unlocks special Crew Bonuses, enhancing mobility, weapon handling, and cooldown times.
