Discover how inZOI's unique karma system can transform vibrant cities into ghost towns if too many Zois die with poor karma. Dive into the details of this intriguing system and mark your calendar for the upcoming early access release.
inZOI Cities Can Be Overrun By Ghosts
The inZOI universe offers a dynamic gameplay experience where cities can evolve into ghost towns if overwhelmed by ghosts. In a recent feature in PC Gamer Magazine, inZOI Director Hyungjun Kim explained the profound impact of the game's karma system on player interactions.
"Each action taken by a Zoi contributes to their karma," Kim stated. He further elaborated, "Upon a Zoi's death, a karma assessment occurs. If their karma score is too low, they turn into a ghost and must work to redeem their karma before they can reincarnate."
If not managed properly, the accumulation of ghosts due to poor karma can severely alter a city's state. Kim noted, "An excess of ghosts prevents new Zois from being born and families from forming, challenging players to carefully manage the karma within their cities." This adds a strategic layer to the game, where balancing the karma system becomes crucial to prevent cities from becoming ghost towns.
Kim emphasized, "The system isn't designed to simply label actions as 'good' or 'bad.' Life encompasses a spectrum of actions and consequences." He encouraged players to delve into inZOI’s karma system, saying, "It's about creating a variety of events and narratives, exploring the multifaceted nature of life."
inZOI Director Has Great Respect for the Legacy The Sims Built
While inZOI enters the life simulation genre, challenging the dominance of The Sims, Director Hyungjun Kim views it not as a competitor but as a complementary option. "We see Inzoi as another choice for fans of this genre to enjoy," he said, expressing respect for The Sims' established legacy.
Kim acknowledged the difficulty of capturing the complexity of life in a short time, stating, "We have immense respect for what The Sims has achieved over the years. Life simulation games aim to encapsulate the vast concept of 'life,' which is no small feat."
inZOI aims to offer a distinct experience with its unique features. "Our game allows players to craft their desired lives with advanced creative tools," Kim explained. He highlighted the game's use of Unreal Engine 5 for realistic visuals, extensive customization options, and AI-driven tools, saying, "We want players to bring their imaginations to life, become protagonists in their own stories, and inhabit those worlds."
